Position? Global Immigration Director.
What are your main responsibilities? Managing clients' immigration programmes across the Middle East region, including consulting, strategic advice, policy implementation and government liaison.
What are your company's Unique Selling Points (USPs) in Oman? We work in partnership with our clients rather than as a service provider. We become an extension of their team integrating ourselves within their business enabling us to fully appreciate the challenges and find the appropriate solutions.
What achievement are you most proud of? Getting successful results for clients in complex and challenging cases. There is nothing more satisfying than being able to deliver good news to your client who are always working to time sensitive project deadlines.
What would you still like to achieve (in life, leisure or business)? In business I would like to be the best that I can and feel that I am making a difference to people. In leisure, I am a family man and enjoy spending time with my children. If I can be a good father to them and inspire them to travel the world and enjoy the different cultures and values in other countries, I will have achieved my goals.
What do you think makes Oman an attractive destination to do business? Oman is a stable country with a developing economy which makes the country the perfect destination for any business minded person. Due to the fact that 44% of Oman’s population are expatriates, the country is more culturally diverse than most of the Gulf states.
What sectors do you think will thrive in Oman and the UK in the coming years and why? Due to the government’s “Vision 2020” strategy, there will be spending on large scale infrastructure projects and Oil & Gas in Oman.
What is the best business advice you have ever received? Someone once told me that to be successful in life you need passion and dedication. Having been in this field for over 15 years now, I fully appreciate that being passionate about my clients and the work I do has helped me considerably in achieving the successful results that we are renowned for. I believe that as long as you have the desire to succeed, opportunities will always come your way.
Favourite destinations in Oman and why? My favourite city - Muscat. It’s a place where the old meets the new and the cosmopolitan meets the traditional. Perfect city if you like the best of both worlds.
Favourite destinations in the UK and why? London. A very cosmopolitan and welcoming city. One of the best places in the world.
Favourite restaurant in Oman and UK? Oman: Al Angham restaurant. The fact that it’s within the Royal Opera House is enough said. UK: Gilgamesh in Camden. Great fusion food and the best wood carving furniture I have ever seen.
Describe your character in five words? Calm, confident, honest, fair, resilient.
What are your hobbies? House building, interior design.
What five things would you take to a desert island? My latest book as I love reading, a good stock of chocolate, my phone (as long as there’s 4G signal), my family and last but not least, a nice yacht just in case I get tired of the island!
What public figures do you most admire and why? Richard Branson. This is a man who never says “No”. To him, everything is possible, it is simply a matter of thinking strategically and making things happen in the right manner. Failure is only a phase which can always be overcome. This is a motto which I hold most dear both professionally and personally.
