Position? Managing Director
What are your main responsibilities? Flynn Refrigeration delivers the complete supply package for all aspects of refrigeration and air conditioning systems. As managing director, I’m responsible for overseeing the company’s main activities on a day to day basis. I’m also heavily involved in the process of enquiry to order, from spare parts and complete compressor units to servicing work around the world. We are an independent, family-run business, founded in Birkenhead in 2006. Key sectors we operate in include marine, industrial and energy sectors. We have more than 30 years’ experience and expertise in niche sectors.
What are your company’s USPs in Oman? Our good links to ports and international airport distribution has enabled us to gain many years’ experience of exporting overseas. Flynn Refrigeration has also built a strong network around the world, particularly in Oman where we have established long-lasting relationships with clients. Key product lines on offer to the Omani market include refrigeration, air-conditioning, compressors, marine controls and spares. We have developed an extensive portfolio of products including thousands of new and reconditioned components. Our key services include supply, installation, maintenance and conversion work.
What achievement are you most proud of? Other than my wonderful children, I’m most proud of the business and the closely-connected team my wife and I have built over the years.
What would you still like to achieve (in life, leisure or business)? I would love to convert a Discovery 2 into an all-out off-roader and explore the lanes of the UK, and maybe even buy a RIB to explore the coastlines.
What sectors do you think makes Oman an attractive destination to do business? I believe Oman is a safe and friendly environment that would allow us to build client relationships, especially in areas with many opportunities for the air conditioning and refrigeration market.
What sectors do you think will strive in Oman and the UK in the coming years and why? I think the service industry is going to open the doors for many great opportunities.
What is the best business advice you have ever received? Someone once told me that a good order is only a good order when the invoice is paid. They also said that anyone who thinks a professional is expensive obviously hasn’t tried an amateur!
Favourite destinations in Oman and why? Although I’ve not yet been to Oman, it’s a beautiful country and the Port of Muscat is a place I would very much like to visit for its outstanding history.
Favourite destinations in the UK and why? I spend many weekends in Wales with the family. It has some of the best walks through the countryside and along the coastline, and we have many great memories here.
Favourite restaurant in Oman and UK? I have heard that Muscat is home to some amazing seafood restaurants and I’ve had some great recommendations for when I visit. Here in the UK, my favourite restaurant is Ty Coch in North Wales.
Describe your character in five words: Focused, friendly, outgoing, committed and honest.
What are your hobbies? When I get the chance, I love off-roading in my car! I also really enjoy long walks with the family and our two dogs.
What five things would you take to a desert island? I couldn’t be without my phone, laptop, a good book to read, a flask of coffee and probably something to eat!
What public figures do you most admire and why? Definitely Richard Branson. He has the determination, bravery and skills to use others to achieve his goals.
